Ghosts of the Past: A Victorian Holiday Tarot Experience at Treehouse Hotel

When Treehouse Hotel in Sunnyvale approached me with a request to create a Tarot experience inspired by “Ghosts of the Past,” I knew this would be more than a reading table at a holiday party.
It had to feel like stepping into a scene from A Christmas Carol.
I revisited Dickens. I listened again to the story of past, present, and future. I asked myself:
How can we transform reflection into an elegant, shared ritual?
Designing the Experience
Every detail was intentionally curated.
I searched vintage stores for victorian style Christmas decor. A small evergreen tree shimmered softly beside candlelight. Deep blue velvet created a rich Victorian base.
I designed custom Tarot spreads inspired by:
The Ghost of the Past
The Ghost of the Present
The Ghost of the Future

Also, I created a “Box of Ghosts” ritual.Guests were invited to write down what they wished to release from the past year — a habit, a fear, a memory — using feather pens on parchment-style paper.
They folded their notes and placed them into the box.
Not as superstition. But as symbolic closure.

Embodying the Atmosphere
To fully honor the concept, I curated my own presence.
A Victorian-inspired gown.Lace choker.Period details.
Because immersive experiences work when every element aligns — including the reader.

The Experience Itself
Guests stepped into a candlelit winter salon.
Each reading was brief yet focused — offering clarity and reflection before entering a new year.
The ritual element became a highlight.Colleagues discussed what they were letting go of.Teams reflected together.Conversations deepened.
It felt intimate, intentional, and elevated.
The Result
The response was overwhelming.
Treehouse Hotel expressed their appreciation with a handwritten note and a complimentary stay — a gesture that spoke volumes about the impact of the experience.
More importantly, guests left not only entertained, but lighter.

Why This Format Works for Corporate Holiday Events
Corporate holiday gatherings are natural transition points.
A curated symbolic experience:
Encourages reflection without heaviness
Strengthens team connection
Creates a shared emotional moment
Elevates the event beyond standard entertainment
Tarot, when approached with psychological framing and thoughtful design, becomes a structured reflection tool — not mysticism, but meaningful narrative.
